2nd Annual Portfolio Meeting on the Healthcare Continuum
Exploring the Full Arc of Healthcare Innovation in Munich
On 22-23 May, the 2nd Annual Portfolio Meeting on the Healthcare Continuum brought together in Munich an inspiring mix of projects and experts, all united by a shared goal: turning healthcare innovation into tangible impact.
Over two days, our projects’ representatives navigated the entire spectrum of innovation: from scientific discovery to regulatory readiness, IP strategy, and commercial scalability. The meeting represented a space for meaningful exchange, alignment, and momentum-building across the ecosystem.

Key Highlights from the Meeting
Regulatory Insights: A workshop led by Alexey Shiryaev from a Notified Body provided a deep dive into the MDR landscape. Beyond its immediate value, the session highlighted the ongoing need for targeted support mechanisms to guide emerging technologies toward clinical and market maturity.
IP and Patent Strategy: Experts from the European Patent Office (EPO) — Kris Loveniers, Wiebke Hinrichs, Frédéric Bataille, Yann Ménière, and Lluis Gimeno-Fabra — led a session on IP mapping and patent cartography. Participants gained practical tools to identify key IP players in their fields and refine their innovation positioning.
Knowledge Sharing: The Knowledge Sharing Working Group hosted discussions on technical convergence, covering AI-driven diagnosis, wearables, implantables, and breath analysis technologies. These sessions revealed the common scientific and technological ground connecting the projects.
Technology Transition: The Technology Transition Working Group identified shared priorities and actionable paths for collaboration, setting the stage for joint initiatives that could accelerate development timelines.
.. And of course, the networking dinner offered a chance to continue conversations and strengthen the connections that truly drive collaboration!
Celebrating Innovative Projects
It was a privilege to engage with the full breadth of the portfolio of projects: once more, we realised how each initiative is advancing diagnostics, therapeutics, and digital health. Together, we are keen on demonstrating that the collective impact of our efforts is far greater than the sum of its parts.
Special thanks go to Martin Richter (Music4Diabetes project) for hosting and giving us a tour of the great premises of Fraunhofer EMFT.
