EIC Healthcare Continuum Portforlio
We are nine EU-funded projects pioneering wearable and implantable sensors for continuous, real-time health monitoring. These innovations aim to transform healthcare from reactive to proactive by enabling early disease detection and personalized care through unobtrusive technologies integrated into daily life.
Our projects
-

BreathSense
Transforming COPD patient care with ground-breaking breath diagnostics sensor technology
-

Blood2Power
Powering Smart Health with your Blood: self-powered vascular grafts that harvest energy from the body for real-time monitoring and improved cardiovascular care
-

IV-Lab
Reinventing cardiovascular care: IV-Lab develops a minimally invasive, implantable multi-sensor platform for real-time hemodynamic and biochemical monitoring, enabling personalized interventions and improved patient outcomes.
-

VOCORDER
VOCORDER is creating a non-invasive breath analysis device using mid-infrared laser technology and AI to detect biomarkers, enabling early detection of cancers and kidney insufficiency through simple, rapid breath monitoring.
-

MuSiC4Diabetes
Changing the current paradigm in diabetes management: Developing a smart device integrating a multi-metabolite (MM) sensor, a control algorithm and a high-precision insulin-delivering pump for a compact, safe and long-lasting solution.
-

MiWear
To revolutionize healthcare by pioneering the use of wearable technology for non-invasive, precise monitoring of metabolic health, empowering individuals to proactively manage their well-being.
-

STIMULUS
We want to assess microvascular health in a non-invasive way using our novel photonics technology.
-

KERMIT
KERMIT’s aim is to develop a scalable platform for sweat-based sensorics to serve as a base for unobtrusive point-of-care diagnostics of kidney disease, transferable to other diseases.
-

WOUNDSENSE
Redefining wound management: smart bandages for early detection of infections
Our funding
To support transformative innovation in health monitoring, the European Innovation Council (EIC) launched the Pathfinder Challenge call titled “Towards the Healthcare Continuum: Technologies to support a radical shift from episodic to continuous healthcare” in 2022.
Following a strong response, nine projects were selected for funding in 2023. These projects now form the Healthcare Continuum portfolio, focusing on developing breakthrough technologies for proactive and continuous healthcare delivery.
The selected projects commenced between July 1, 2023, and January 1, 2024, and will run for up to 48 months, supported by a total EU contribution of approximately €32 million.
